At least 44 senior citizens were hired on the spot by a fast food chain during a special job fair at a mall in Davao City.
They are expected to start working by the first week of October, provided they complete the company’s requirements such as medical clearance, police clearance, among others.
According to City Councilor Diosdado Mahipus, Jr., the senior citizens hired will be assigned to outlets closest to their homes for convenience and accessible transportation.
They will work four hours daily for four to five months to allow other to also benefit from the program.
The local lawmaker welcomed the growing interest from other establishments, including malls and hotels, to hire both senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The program is expected to open more job opportunities for senior citizens and PWDs without age and disability being a hindrance.
It can be recalled that the local government and earlier forged an agreement with several establishments in the city to hire senior citizens and PWDs.
