The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology-Davao (PHIVOLCS-11) is set to launch a “Walk the fault” activity in Davao City next week.

According to Rudy Encabo, assistant department head and information office of the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the activity aims to trace the city’s fault lines and determine whether there have been changes on the ground.

Through this initiative, authorities would be able to raise public awareness and develop preparedness plans, especially for communities situated near the fault lines.

This is not the first time that PHIVOLCS, the Office Of the Civil Defense-Davao (OCD-11), and CDRRMO conducted such activity to identify and mark fault lines.

The Central Davao Fault System consists of five segments: the Tamugan fault, Lacson fault, Dacudao fault, Pangyan-Biao fault, and New Carmen fault.
