A 12-hour power interruption is set on Saturday, October 11, 2025 in parts of Iloilo City.

Juvy Jimenea could not help from worrying over perishable goods. To maintain freshness of meat and other frozen goods that she sells at the Jaro Big Market, she keeps a freezer. However, power outages that stretch long hours affect her livelihood heavily.

"Kung buong araw ang aming mga stock, depende kung may ice na maiiwan sa aming freezer. Ngunit kung wala, maaapektuhan talaga ang aming mga paninda lalo na ang mga frozen [goods],” Jimenea said.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will undertake maintenance activities, based on its advisory.

The 12-hour power interruption will affect the entire Megaworld Feeder 6 and Mobile Feeders 2 and 3 of MORE Power.

The power interruption is scheduled from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the entire Barangays of Desamparados, El 98 Castilla, Luna, San Vicente, and Seminario in Jaro District, and parts of other barangays in other city districts.

Further, a few barangays are advised of a three-hour power outage.

“Ang ating power interruption is to support ang ating preparation sa upgrading sa Iloilo substations. Maraming activities ang involved and this is to prepare everything sa ating upgrading works,” said Reagahn Alcantara, lead specialist of the Public Relations Department of NGCP Western Visayas.

Aside from the impact of brownouts to perishable goods, another vendor expressed worry over expected low sales.

“Ang mga tao sa portion na ito, hindi na lang sila mamimili. Kung mamimili naman sila, konti lang, good for isang kainan. Siyempre sasabihin nila may brownout, hindi naman natin yan ma-frozen,” Jo Coronado, a vendor, said.

NGCP has assured consumers of further improvement of services through maintenance activities.
