The walls of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)–Brooke’s Point District Jail turned into canvases of hope as the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) organized a Painting Contest for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in celebration of the 2025 National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW).
The activity aimed to promote rehabilitation and self-expression among PDLs through art, giving them a creative outlet to share their stories of faith, healing, and transformation.
The event was made possible through the support of Atty. Jephraim Baguyo, who sponsored the contest materials and prizes as part of PAO’s continuing advocacy for restorative justice and emotional healing among PDLs.
BJMP MIMAROPA spokesperson, Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, said the activity goes beyond creativity, serving as a reminder that transformation is possible even within jail walls.
“Every color they paint speaks of their longing to begin again,” Anglo said.
“Through art, they find healing, dignity, and the courage to hope beyond the walls,” he added.
The initiative is part of the Bureau’s ongoing rehabilitation and reformation programs that aim to empower PDLs through livelihood, education, and skills development activities.
