Naga City in Camarines Sur will soon use the country’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) City Planner after the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) approved the city’s application for a ₱6.7-million grant.

In a Facebook post, Mayor and former Vice President Leni Robredo said the project will help Naga improve transport and land-use planning through a more organized, data-driven system.

“This brings us closer to our goal of an Open, Digital and Participatory Naga by 2028,” she said.

The AI City Planner is designed to support people, centric planning by gathering maps, data, and project information into one platform. The system can analyze traffic flow, check hazards in proposed development sites, and monitor delays in ongoing projects, which are tasks that usually take days or weeks for local offices to process manually.

Robredo said DEPDev’s approval allows Naga to adopt tools that will make planning more efficient and transparent.

“This will help us do a more effective, people-centric transport and land use planning, monitoring and evaluation that’s AI-empowered. It will be the first in the country,” she said.

She also thanked Dr. Syrus Gomari for assisting in the proposal and DEPDev for supporting the project.
