A new detour bridge in Alcala, Cagayan, officially opened on Friday, December 19, 2025, aiming to ease heavy traffic in the area.
The inauguration was led by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon and Cagayan Governor Edgar Aglipay. The two-month construction of the bridge followed the collapse of the old span on October 6, which gave way when four trucks crossed it at the same time.
Authorities said the detour bridge has a maximum capacity of 40 tons. Strict vehicle classification will be enforced to prevent overloading and ensure road safety.
Residents and commuters are expected to benefit immediately from smoother traffic flow along this vital route connecting local towns.
