Two trees fell and damaged houses in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City, while students in upland Barangay Lusaran walked by the riverside to avoid a swollen river on their way home.

The trees toppled as the soil eroded due to persistent rains brought about by the shear line that prevailed Visayas-wide on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

The first incident in Sitio Lukana, Barangay Kalunasan took place past 7 a.m.

Tree branches hit the houses, though, not the trunks.

No person was injured in the incident, but railings of a footbridge were damaged.

City Councilor Dave Tumulak advised residents in the affected area to evacuate in view of persistent rains.

The other incident hit a house where residents worried over a live wire. The power utility was informed immediately of the situation to pad untoward incidents.

Further, Lusaran River on upland Cebu City swelled due to intense rains.

In a video uploaded by netizen Ruth Yap, a group of students was spotted on their way home from school in Barangay Lusaran, taking a path by the riverside. The video was taken on Monday, February 9.

The students avoided crossing Lusaran River that day as it was swollen due to heavy rains.

It reportedly took the students about two hours to get home.

Based on the assessment of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, incidents of soil erosion were reported in upland barangays and the swelling of waterways, but no casualty was reported. No one was reported injured.
