Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the BJMP Gasan District Jail in Marinduque have turned discarded coconut shells into functional kitchen utensils as part of a livelihood program that promotes both craftsmanship and environmental sustainability.

The initiative allows inmates to channel their creativity into producing eco-friendly items, giving them a productive outlet while also encouraging the recycling of indigenous materials.

“We hope the public will support even these simple products made by our PDL. Despite the limitations of a small jail facility, they continue to show genuine effort to reform and to create items that are useful and meaningful. Every purchase is not just support for a product, but encouragement for their commitment to change,” BJMP Mimaropa spokesperson JO3 Joefrie Anglo, said.

BJMP said the program forms part of broader rehabilitation efforts aimed at preparing inmates for reintegration into society, emphasizing skills development and personal growth behind bars.
