Up to 934 vehicle plates have been released in Central Visayas since the start of the so-called “Friendly Flagdown” initiative of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
The initiative started on April 15, 2026 as a way for LTO to bring its services to motorists on the street.
LTO personnel would flag down motorists, especially those driving motorcycles, so they can check if the plate number on the vehicle is updated or if the motorist is still using a temporary plate.
Those not using updated plates will be advised to submit documents, including the Official Receipt (OR) and Certificate of Registration (CR) issued by LTO and valid ID, for verification.
At the “Friendly Flagdown” station in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, new plates were released at the Barangay Hall. There, LTO personnel are on standby to review documents from motorists and release updated plates if they are available.
Jeffrey Caballero, one of those who claimed their plate number, told GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak that he was worried at first when he was flagged.
“Kulbaan gyud gamay kung naay LTO bitaw… mutuman gyud ta sa balaod. Karon pa ko nakabalo pero dugay na ni akong motor. Pag-post sa Labangon, niari ko diri nagkuha,” he said.
