Power rates in Northern Mindanao may go down after a 21-megawatt solar power plant in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental was inaugurated, the Department of Energy (DOE) said.
DOE Secretary Sharon Garin led the launching of the first utility-scale solar power plant in Mindanao on May 22, 2026.
The facility owned by the FDC Green Energy Corp. had an investment of more than P700 million.
DOE said the facility has a capacity to supply electricity to more than 20,000 households using renewable energy from the sun.
“Ito yung cheaper option, the more cheaper energy that is available the cheaper it will be sa mga households natin hindi man direct pero yung overall average makikita din ang kontribusyon ng plantang ito,” Garin said.
