Barangay San Nicolas Proper has joined the 11 Cebu City barangays with a 24-hour birthing center.
The maternal care facility, for normal delivery only, is at the premises of the San Nicolas Proper Barangay Hall.
The facility has a check-up room, a delivery room, and a recovery room, all with air-conditioning units.
According to Barangay Chairman Clifford Jude Niñal, the birthing center was funded by the Department of Health.
As for Dr. Daisy Villa, chief of the Cebu City Health Department, the barangay-based birthing center aims to encourage child-bearing women to avail of professional maternity and newborn care.
