Despite the recent heavy rains and floods that have affected Masbate province, its products take center stage in Albay's capital, Legazpi City, through the "Orawa San Masbate" (or Pride of Masbate) trade fair held at a local mall on November 22, 2023.
The event features a diverse array of food and non-food products, souvenirs, leather bags, handicrafts, and various Christmas decorations, providing a platform for local businesses to showcase their resilience and creativity.
"Meron po kaming special carmelado, gawa po sa pure na gatas ng kalabaw at saka rice crakers po," said Luzviminda Zafra.
Janice Legal, a satisfied customer, adds, "It tastes incredibly delicious, truly representative of Masbate."
Among the highlights are exquisite coconut-based creations, including keychains, lampshades, and decorative items crafted from coconut shells.
"May mga keychain po kami, meron po kaming iba't-ibang design, meron din po kaming lampshade at saka meron din po kaming pangdisplay lang sa bahay," said Ruby Joy Guttirez.
According to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), this initiative aims to help Masbateño businesses recover after the challenges brought about by the pandemic. By bringing the trade fair to Albay, they provide a platform for 31 exhibitors, giving them an opportunity to reintroduce and market their products.
"Ito pong event natin ay dinadala namin sa Albay, ang amin pong 31 exhibitors, para magkaroon sila ng opportunity to showcase their products," said Butch Castro, Provincial Director of DTI Masbate.
