Residents of Vigan City have come together to help restore the city library that was damaged heavily by Typhoon Egay in July 2023.
Hundreds of boxes containing books arrived at the Vigan City library, which marked the success of the "Donate a Book" project.
Over a thousand books were destroyed during the typhoon.
"First na row dito sa baba, lahat iyon is na-wash out dahil sa bagyo dahil mataas yung flood noon yung water,” Maria Teresa Jimenez, a librarian aide, said.
Many students who frequented the library credited their academic success, including passing board exams, to the resources available there.
In response to the library's call for help, students who have completed their studies and passed their exams donated books they used during their academic journey.
"Sa ganitong paraan we can help our students din para magkaroon ng resources na gagamitin nila in their field of specialization," Jimenez added.
Ediene Pasamonte, a student, expressed her joy at finding medical textbooks in the library.
"Aside from the original references, you also find other resources that will supplement your other subjects,” she said.
The library, open to the public from Monday to Saturday, continues to welcome donations to revive its resources and serve the community further.
