A specialized unit of Tourist Police wearing civil guard-inspired uniforms from the Spanish colonial period has been deployed in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
The unit was trained to handle concerns and ensure the security of tourists.
The prototype unit was formed by the Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office in coordination with the Department of Tourism and the city government of Vigan.
The newly assigned personnel were also adorned with traditional salakot.
They retain their service firearms.
Authorities believe that this will help in the growing tourism industry of the city.
