Nature enthusiasts and bird lovers are in for a treat in Ilocos Norte where over 2,000 species of waterbirds can be enjoyed through bird watching at the Paoay National Park.

The estuary comes alive in January, offering an ideal setting for bird watching.

Among the diverse waterbirds that can be spotted are egrets, herons, the Philippine duck, northern shoveler, and moorhen.

Another hotspot for bird watching is Barangay Gabu in Laoag City, which serves as habitat for various bird species.

The area has become a sanctuary for both endemic and migratory birds.

According to the Asian Waterbirds Monitoring, more than 2,200 birds, both endemic and migratory species, reside in Ilocos Norte.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) reminds the public that disturbing the bird's habitat or attempting to capture them is strictly prohibited.
