Another international stint is underway for award-winning “Firefly,” as it lands a spot at the 14th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) which runs from April 19 to 26.

The fantasy-drama film by GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs is among the festival’s 240 or so featured movies.

GMA Public Affairs posted on April 19 a real-time update regarding the screening of “Firefly.

“Firefly screening at the Beijing International Film Festival 2024. The BJIFF spotlights global cinematic excellence and diverse narratives. The festival runs from April 18 to 26,” the post said.

This marks yet another milestone for the highly acclaimed GMA film. It has been on a successful run since it first premiered at the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2023 last December.

The Zig Dulay masterpiece won Best Picture, Best Screenplay (Angeli Atienza), and Best Child Performer (Euwenn Mikaell) during the most recent MMFF ‘Gabi ng Parangal.’

In February, “Firefly” went international after getting featured on several screens across the US, including movie houses in states like California, Nevada, and Guam.

It also participated at the first-ever Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) in Hollywood, California, where it won another pair of Best Picture and Best Screenplay prizes, together with a Best Actress plum for Alessandra de Rossi and a Best Director award for Direk Zig.

“Firefly” is a fantasy-journey film that captures the journey of Tonton (played by Mikaell) as he goes on a quest to find the mystical island of fireflies from his mother’s bedtime stories (de Rossi).

It also stars Sparkle couple Miguel Tanfelix and Ysabelle Ortega, Epy Quizon, Yayo Aguila, Cherry Pie Picache, and Kokoy Santos. Dingdong Dantes also plays a special cameo role.
