For the first time, the longest maritime procession for the Our Lady of Salvacion, the patroness of Albay province, was held.
The procession began at 5 a.m. in the waters of Joroan, Tiwi, lasting for over five hours before reaching Sawangan Park in Legazpi City.
Devotees lined the shores of the six towns and cities where the procession passed, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the revered icon.
"Maray sa pagmati bilang sarong deboto kan satuyang Mahal na Ina, ma[ka]ogma," Arnel Jaromamay, a devotee, said.
One boat encountered a minor problem along the way, but it was resolved swiftly.
“Nung una nasiraan kami diba, after nun hindi na maganda ang pakiramdam ko, pero sabi ko hindi ako susuko," Jessica Marcellana, a devotee, said.
Authorities hoped that this tradition will continue in the coming years as part of the faith tourism initiative, in conjunction with the Magayon Festival.
"Parte kan satuyang kulturang Bikolnon, kan satuyang kultura bilang Albayano, an pagiging maka-Diyos, an pagiging relihiyoso [at] an makusog na debosyon ki Ina," Messenger Crispin Bernarte Jr., Vicar General for Administration of the Diocese of Legazpi, said.
"First time po ito, very historic, first time po tayong nagkaroon nitong component, I think [of] faith tourism as a real face in Magayon festival, and also in other festivals in Albay," Governor Grex Lagman said.
The Nuestra Señora de Salvacion is revered by Albayanos as a miraculous figure, providing them solace and strength during times of calamity and other challenges faced by the province.
