A Mango Harvest Festival was celebrated for the first time in Ilocos Sur to highlight efforts to strengthen the mango industry in the town of Sinait.

The festival was held at a mango farm.

Farmers use technologies provided by the Agriculture Office, then count 120 calendar days from the flowering of mango trees until the fruits are ready for harvest.

“Mula sa lupa hanggang sa harvesting andun lahat ‘yung mga technology,” Teresito Batin, Ilocos Sur Organic Trainer and High-Value Crops Coordinator, said.

Whether big or small, mangoes are known for their sweetness, a pride of the province.

The provincial government is considering establishing plants to produce various mango products to prevent wastage, especially during times of overproduction.

“Para pagsobra na ang harvest natin, doon din dadalhin ‘yung mga mango natin in the province of Ilocos Sur,” Batin said.

While Ilocos Sur has around five mango varieties, they said it's the Carabao mango that stands out for its marketability and good price.
