Following his contract renewal with the Kapuso network on December 3, veteran journalist and host Arnold 'Igan' Clavio expressed his thanks to GMA–his home network since 1989– and declared the momentous event a celebration not just of his work journey but also of a "renewed spirit."
Clavio, popularly knowns as Igan, inked the fresh contract with the leading broadcast company on Tuesday at the Unang Hirit Studio in GMA Network Center, where the GMA Integrated News and Public Affairs broadcast journalist gave an emotional speech.
According to a report by Nika Roque of GMA News Online, Igan made mention of the health challenges he faced this year, sharing that he is "beyond words" and "forever grateful" that he is still able to do the things that make him happy.
Igan opened up about the time he was alone at the emergency room after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke where he felt like "I'm ready to go, yun talaga ang naramdaman ko," and acknowledged that his healing and recovery are a mission– a second chance.
“Hindi ko alam na mangyayari po ito, na magkasamasama pa rin tayo dahil dun sa nangyari,” he reportedly said.
Still from Nika Roque's report, Igan contemplated on the mortality of man and the fact that, upon turning 60 in 2025, he will have been 10 years from reaching the average life expectancy of Filipinos.
"Siya na bahala na maging boses pa rin ako ng mga balita," he said. “Napaka espesyal po nito kasi hindi lang po renewal of contract ‘tong nangyari eh. Talagang renewed spirit din po ako. Renewed human being po ako sa nangyari sa ‘kin.”
In attendance during the contract signing were GMA Network executives: President and Chief Executive Officer Gilberto R. Duavit Jr., Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe S. Yalong, GMA Public Affairs First Vice President Nessa Valdellon, and GMA Public Affairs Vice President Arlene Carnay. Meanwhile, GMA Chairman Atty. Felipe L. Gozon recorded a video message.
Also present were: GMA Integrated News, Regional TV and Synergy Senior Vice President and Head Oliver Victor B. Amoroso, First Vice President for Radio Operations Group Glenn Allona, GMA Integrated News Vice President and Deputy Head for News Programs and Specials Michelle Seva, GMA Integrated News Assistant Vice President and Deputy Head for Integrated News Operations Division Queenie S. Dimapawi, Corporate Affairs and Communications, Assistant Vice President for Corporate Communications Jojo Aquio, Assistant Vice President Joy Madrigal, and Assistant Vice President for Radio, News Operations and Programming Norilyn Temblor.
