The Philippine Junior Marketing Association (PJMA), a marketing alliance that organizes and educates marketing students nationwide, held its general assembly last Saturday at the De La Salle College of St. Benilde in Manila, uniting an estimated 2,500 young marketeers to listen to experts talk about latest industry trends and strategies.

Officially called IN-SYNC, Powering Retention Edge, the event was PJMA’s 38th national congregation that aimed to unite would-be marketing professionals and empower them to be “industry-ready professionals.”

IN-SYNC, Powering Retention Edge featured informative discussions by accomplished industry members and thought leaders: Germaine A. Reyes (President and CEO of Synergy Market Research + Strategic Consultancy), James Dala (Digital Marketing Manager at Pivot North Consulting Group), and Buji Babiera (Storyteller, Mobility Advocate).

Reyes, for one, talked about the critical role of customer retention, the factors central to the consumers’ decision-making when choosing brands, the impact of influencers in marketing, and why learning the ropes of modern marketing is an imperative.

“Marketing is very exciting at the same time complex these days,” said Reyes.

“It’s about who continuously delivers value and builds lasting connections like a true friendship,” she added.

The attendees also received words of inspiration from Leah Marie G. Ayeng, the Philippine Marketing Association’s Youth and Academe Director and CEO of Prestige Paper Products.

“Marketing is more than just selling a product or crafting your campaign, it is about creating connections… Be bold, be innovative, and always be true to your values,” reminded Ayeng.

The event was hosted by Simon Tan and Sophia Buenaventura.

PJMA is the official youth affiliate of the Philippine Marketing Association (PMA), focusing on student-led initiatives that center on providing career opportunities.

They do this through brand collabs, academic conferences, career talks, marketing competitions and other marketing-related movements.
