Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection’s (BFP) Regional Special Rescue Force demonstrated their high-risk rappelling techniques as part of Fire Prevention Month.
The heart-stopping display featured various rescue methods, including standard rappelling, lizard rappelling, Australian rappelling, and the daring flying fox technique.
These skills are essential for extracting people trapped in burning buildings safely.
“Halimbawa may building na nasusunog, mahalaga na mailabas safely ‘yung mga tao doon kaya may mga Special Rescue Force tayo,” FSUPT. Eddie Jucutan, Deputy Regional Director for Administration of BFP Region 1, said.
Beyond technical rescue operations, the BFP said fire prevention is a shared responsibility that starts at home.
Jessica Zamora, a resident of Dagupan City, takes extra precautions after witnessing past fire incidents.
“Pinapatay ko talaga mga saksakan at mga appliances kapag umaalis kami ng bahay, mahirap na masunugan,” she said.
Aside from grass and structural fires, the BFP is monitoring forest fires closely, particularly in Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
“Sa record natin sa forest fire, marami gaya sa Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, at Ilocos Sur,” Jucutan said.
To further reduce fire incidents, the BFP is ramping up public awareness campaigns on fire safety and prevention.
