A family in General Santos City has been holding a “Pabasa” (chanting of the Passion of Christ) every Holy Week for more than five decades.

On Maundy Thursday, April 17, 2025, the voice of 73-year-old, Aurora Lising, can be heard leading the ‘Pabasa’ in Barangay San Isidro.

According to her 47-year-old grandson, Edzel, their family started the tradition when they were still living in Pampanga.

When they moved to General Santos City in 1973, they continued the tradition and kept it going for the past 30 years since moving to their current compound in Barangay San Isidro.

Some residents also visit their home to listen to the “Pabasa,” which they do in the Kapampangan language.

They perform the “Pabasa” from Holy Monday to Good Friday as a religious vow.

According to them, their devotion has brought blessings, helping them overcome many challenges in life.

The ‘Pabasa’ is being held 24 hours a day, with family members taking turns in leading the prayers.

For now, the older generation is leading the ‘Pabasa’ while the younger ones learn and familiarize themselves with the practice.
