Even behind bars, love found a way to shine.
On Saturday, May 10, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) MIMAROPA held an early Mother’s Day celebration at the Puerto Princesa City Jail Female Dormitory, bringing tears, smiles, and hope to women deprived of liberty and their families.
Families reunited in an emotional gathering that reminded everyone of the unbreakable bond between mothers and their loved ones.
“In the walls that confine, love finds a way to bloom,” Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, BJMP MIMAROPA’s regional information officer, said.
Anglo said the event showed BJMP’s ongoing efforts to support the emotional and mental well-being of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) as part of their full rehabilitation.
“By celebrating events like Mother’s Day, the BJMP strengthens familial bonds and provides PDLs with a sense of connection to the outside world, reaffirming its commitment to fostering an environment conducive to personal growth and rehabilitation,” he added.
BJMP believes keeping family ties strong is a vital part of helping PDLs return to society with hope and purpose.
This year’s celebration featured touching moments between mothers and their families, proving that love and support can grow even in the hardest of places.
BJMP MIMAROPA said they continue to create programs that focus on healing, growth, and second chances—for both inmates and their families.
“BJMP offers a comprehensive array of rehabilitation programs designed to support the healing, growth, and reintegration of PDLs. These initiatives encompass educational, psychological, vocational, spiritual, and legal support services, all aimed at fostering personal transformation and preparing PDLs for life beyond incarceration,” Anglo said.
A specific example includes their cooking courses in the Palawan City Jail female dormitory.
“It serve as a transformative tool for female PDLs, offering them valuable skills, income opportunities, and a pathway to a more productive and fulfilling life post-incarceration,” Anglo added.
