Dressed in gowns and surrounded by decorations, young women and their escorts paraded through Barangay San Miguel in Calasiao, Pangasinan for the annual Santacruzan.

The event, a cherished tradition in honor of the barangay’s patron saint, featured not just locals but also participants from neighboring towns such as Bued, Sta. Barbara, and San Vicente.

“Thirteen silang lumahok, pero open po kasi. Hindi lang taga-San Miguel. Meron Bued, merong Sta. Barbara, meron San Vicente na lumahok din dito. Nagpa-open kami,” Barangay Chairman Jasper Rosario said.

One of the most awaited moments was the appearance of the Reyna Elena. She was portrayed this year by 18-year-old Aubrey Meneses.

“Siyempre po masaya and thankful, kasi po sa lahat po ng babae dito, ako po ‘yong napiling maging Reyna Elena,” Meneses said.

Residents, young and old, gathered along the streets to watch the procession. For many, besides being a religious and cultural tradition, it was also a celebration of family and pride.

“Ay syempre natutuwa ako, masaya ako, dahil makikita ko apo ko sa kagandahan niya,” Myrna Dioquino, a resident, said.

Locals hope the Santacruzan will continue for years to come.
