Heads up, film buffs! GMA Pictures’ award-winning prison drama “Green Bones” has officially landed on Netflix!

“Green Bones,” a Best Picture winner at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), made its worldwide streaming debut on Netflix today, June 19.

The critically acclaimed movie, headlined by equally acclaimed Kapuso actors Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid, is produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs, co-produced with Brightburn Entertainment.

Trillo and Madrid, who won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively at the 50th MMFF for their performances in “Green Bones”, are joined by a powerhouse cast including veteran actors Michael de Mesa, Ronnie Lazaro, Wendell Ramos, and Alessandra de Rossi.

“Green Bones” was a big winner in MMFF. Aside from the Best Picture award and Trillo and Madrid’s acting prizes, “Green Bones” also won Best Screenplay, (Ricky Lee and MMFF 2023 Best Screenplay winner Angeli Atienza), Best Cinematography (Neil Daza), and Best Child Performer (Sienna Stevens).

It also won multiple accolades at the 3rd Gawad Dangal Filipino Awards: First Best Picture, Best Actor (Trillo), Best Supporting Actor (Madrid), and Best Director ( Zig Dulay).

Directed by the esteemed filmmaker Zig Dulay and based on the original concept by GMA Public Affairs’ senior manager for documentaries JC Rubio, "Green Bones" is the story of a soon-to-be-released prisoner named Domingo Zamora (Trillo), who was incarcerated for the murder of his sister. His release is put in jeopardy by Xavier Gonzaga (Madrid), a newly-assigned prison guard who makes it his personal mission to keep him behind bars.

The drama explores the belief that the presence of green bones in a person's remains is proof of one’s goodness in life.
