The Cebu City Public Library will operate 24 hours and all days of the week (24/7) again.

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival has declared that the Cebu City Public Library will operate 24/7 again at the start of his term, or on June 30, 2025.

“This is not just about reopening doors. It is about reopening a space where people can learn, grow, reflect, and dream,” he said earlier, based on a post of the Cebu City Public Information Office (PIO).

"The initiative is a nod to the city’s educational priorities, particularly for students who seek quiet study spaces beyond regular hours," Cebu City PIO added.

Archival emphasized that "education has always been close to his heart and acknowledged the need for accessible, inclusive spaces where learning can thrive at any hour."

To recall, the 24/7 library concept was first implemented in March 2018 under former mayor Tomas Osmeña, who launched the initiative after a student posed on social media asking for a late-night study area.

Archival’s decision to revive the 24/7 library continues this legacy, ensuring that the Cebu City Public Library "remains a vital resource for students and professionals to re-establish the facility as a cornerstone of public education and community development in the City."

The city library is located at the ground floor of the Rizal Memorial Library and Museum building along Osmeña Boulevard, three blocks away from the Cebu Provincial Capitol building.

A relaunching program of the 24/7 operations will be held at 5:30 p.m. on June 30, 2025 with the presence of Mayor Archival and Vice Mayor Osmeña.
