Tombi Romulo, a ‘clashbacker’ in the ongoing The Clash 2025 from Season 2, is back for a second title run as she hopes to redeem herself after a viral season-ending performance in 2019.
“Nung tinawagan ako for ‘The Clash 2025,’ um-oo ako agad kasi I want to redeem myself,” she told GMA Regional TV News in an exclusive interview.
Six years ago, Tombi joined the second season of “The Clash” and reached the singing competition’s Top 12. In her semi-final rendition of Morisette’s “Akin Ka Na Lang,” the Kawit, Cavite native seemingly lost power in her voice and failed to reach the high notes as her performance faded into an emotional apology at the end, ultimately getting eliminated in the process.
That unforgettable experience inside the Clash Arena became a tremendous learning moment for Tombi, but it also stirred a lot of hate online with bashers making fun of her performance on social media pages.
“Nung Season 2, nag-trending ako. Nahusgahan ako ng mga basher… nung time na yun hindi ako nagtitingin sa comment section pero binasa ko sila after ko malaglag.”
Six years and a lot of contemplation later, Tombi wants to prove her mettle inside the Clash Arena once more, and to make a statement that she has gotten better as a performer.
“Gusto ko rin patunayan– may sakit kasi ako noon which is hindi naman alam ng mga basher. Pag may sakit ka, hindi kundisyon yung katawan mo bumirit,” she explained.
Tombi believes that this opportunity to run it back is her best chance to rewrite her The Clash journey, and make a rather strong showing that hopefully sticks with the fans.
“Yun kasi yung naaalala ng tao eh,” Tombi said, “pero alam ko sa sarili ko na ginawa ko yung best ko and sana yun na yung maalala ng tao, kalimutan na sana yung dati.”
Officially titled 'The Clash 2025,' the show premiered on June 8, and came with a thrilling new format: New Clashers versus Clashbackers.
For the first time in the show's history, two batches of Clashers face off in an all-out vocal showdown
The Clash airs at 7:15 p.m. on Sundays only on GMA Network.
