Kara David is the quintessential definition of a storyteller by heart, promising to pursue a life of telling meaningful stories until she is 100 years old.
On Tuesday, the Peabody winner signed a new contract with GMA– her home network for three decades– marking the continuation of her award-winning reportage and documentary-making in the years to come.
“Thank you to GMA for giving me this chance, I will be forever grateful for you taking the chance on me when nobody else wanted to take a chance on me,” said the multi-awarded broadcast journalist, who is also celebrating 30 years with the Kapuso network.
Present during the contract signing event were GMA Network CEO and President Gilberto R. Duavit Jr., Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe S. Yalong, and Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and Executive Vice President for GMA Pictures Nessa Valdellon, along with other GMA Public Affairs executives.
“You are as remarkable and distinguished as you are unassuming. Ikaw ang ehemplo ng pinaka-natural,” Duavit said in a message.
The GMA Network President and CEO also described David as “amazing,” pertaining to her as a “credit not only to your profession and family, but to all of us.”
GMA Network, Inc. Chairman Felipe L. Gozon, fellow award-winning journalist Jessica Soho, and other former colleagues also left warm messages for David through a compilation video.
In her message, David pledged to continue working on her craft while giving it “her best shot.”
“Makakaasa po kayo na kahit mapagod ako, magta-trabaho ako,” she said.
“Thanks for giving me this platform, for allowing me to tell stories, and thank you for allowing me to use these stories to help more people in the Philippines. Yun yung tinuro sa akin ng GMA, kaya kahit mag-100 years old na po ako, lulusong pa rin ako para makagawa ng makabuluhang kwento para sa ating mga Kapuso,” David added.
David is a news and public affairs pillar famously known for her award-winning documentaries for I-Witness, the longest-running documentary show in the Philippines.
She also currently hosts the infotainment show Pinas Sarap.
David is a journalism professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman, and the founder of Project Malasakit, a scholarship foundation that helps children from underprivileged sectors to go to school.
