It was a muddy business for residents of Barangay Ayala in Zamboanga City.

While this may be the case, the local fiesta there was filled with laughter as residents gathered to witness fellow residents run around in blindfold, in a muddy field, to catch a squealing pig.

The pig catching game has become an entertaining tradition of the barangay’s annual celebration.

A resident said the pig’s body was rubbed with oil, making it even harder to grab and hold the animal.

“Actually, malipayon ang mga tao didto. Actually, gibutanan to nila og oil ang baboy para danlog kung gakuson,” a resident, Jhanice Ortega Macapili, said.

Eventually, the pig was captured.

The event has become a beloved tradition supported by the local government.

It also aims to pass down cultural traditions to the younger generation.

“Ang tawag natu ‘dula sa sinaunang panahon’ para kadtong wala pa maka-experience bisag sa gamay nga pamaagi makasinati sa ilang kinabuhi,” Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Olaso said.
