Reverend Father Andres “Andy” Ligot from Laoag City was appointed by Pope Leo IV as auxiliary bishop of San Jose, California.

Bernadette Sofia Ligot, his younger sister, said they were surprised to hear the news since Father Andy never mentioned anything to them about the appointment.

"Our family is so blessed that we've got members who are priests, not only an ordinary priest, but a bishop. Not only here in the Philippines but in the United States,” she said.

According to the family, Father Andy has been devoted to God since childhood and followed the footsteps of their uncle, the late Bishop Victorino Ligot of San Fernando, La Union.

Father Andy, the fifth of six siblings, was ordained by Pope John Paul II on June 14, 1992, at St. Peter’s Basilica for the Diocese of Laoag.

He studied philosophy at San Pablo College Seminary in Baguio City and earned his master’s degree in philosophy at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila in 1988.

He is expected to return home on October 4, 2025, for the death anniversary of one of his siblings.
