Ivan Mayrina remains a certified Kapuso!
The Pampangueño broadcast journalist signed a new contract with GMA Network on Friday, September 5, renewing ties with his home network for 25 years.
In a heartfelt message, Mayrina expressed his many thanks, calling this 25-year career with GMA a “wonderful journey… from one story to another, day after day, inalagaan ako.”
“I am turning 49 years old, and I have spent 25 of those years with GMA. So more than half my life, ibinuhos ko sa GMA. Much has been said about the journalism that GMA stands for, but what many people don't see is our value that our people are our greatest asset,” Mayrina said in a brief message moments after the ceremonial contract signing.
Present during the contract signing event were GMA Network President and Chief Executive Officer Gilberto R. Duavit Jr., Senior Vice President and Head of GMA Integrated News (GMAIN), Regional TV, and Synergy Oliver Victor B. Amoroso, and GMAIN Vice President and Deputy Head for News Programs and Specials Division Michelle Seva.
GMA President and CEO Gilberto R. Duavit Jr. described Ivan as “credit to all of us,” calling the award-winning journalist a truly excellent exemplar, and a source of “pride and happiness.”
“Ikaw, sa pananaw naming lahat, ay isang tunay at tapat na haligi ng serbisyong totoo. Isang ehemplo na magpapatuloy na magbibigay sigla at inspirasyon sa mga katulad mong media practitioner,” the Network chief said of Mayrina.
A proud Kapuso homegrown, Mayrina began his news and public affairs career in 2000, and has since built a reputable career in journalism marked by impact-driven coverages and notable distinctions.
“Twenty-five years, we talk about 25 more? Honestly, with how I'm treated by GMA, I don’t see myself being anywhere else. Makakaasa kayo, kung ano man yung ikinatuwa ninyo in the last 25 years, we’ll have more of that,” said Mayrina.
A news and public affairs pillar with a reputable track record, the award-winning broadcast journalist also promised to be one with GMA Integrated News’ continued pursuit of responsible and evolving journalism.
“GMA will continue to stand sa journalism na wasto, patas, balansyado, kapakipakinabang, and more importantly, ngayong GMA Integrated News na tayo– more than the traditional media na nakasanayan nila sa telebisyon at sa radyo– we will go further,” noted Mayrina.
“We will go where they are, kung nasaan ang audience natin. Susundan natin ang kanilang nagbabagong patterns, new habits, new preferences, para patuloy nating maihatid ang brand of journalism that GMA stands for,” he finished.
At present, Mayrina serves as a co-anchor of “24 Oras Weekend,” the weekend edition of GMA Integrated News’ flagship news program; and as one of the hosts of “Unang Hirit,” the longest running morning show in the Philippines.
In 2019, Mayrina was hailed the Most Outstanding Kapampangan for the Mass Media Category by the local award-giving body that annually recognizes outstanding contributions by Pampangueños.
