For more than 25 years, Cris Camara has made a living as a mural painter, turning blank walls into works of art admired across Pangasinan.
Camara was spotted by GMA Regional TV News Team in Barangay Gabon, Calasiao, where he was busy painting on private property. With fair weather allowing him to work again, Camara said clients continue to seek him out for his craft.
“Marami pang naka-line up. Kung minsan nga hindi ko na ginagawa yung iba sa dami nila. Sa sobrang dami, may tubo rin,” Camara shared.
Camara discovered his love for drawing and painting at age 15. Now at 59, his passion for art remains as strong as ever. He is known for creating nature-inspired concepts, which many people admire for their beauty and originality.
“Basta pagandahin mo lang, tsaka may sariling concept. Pag sinabi nilang ito ang gusto nila, ikaw na ang magpaganda,” he said.
One of his clients, retired US Navy Eduardo Dioquino, expressed his admiration for Camara’s works.
“Talagang napakaganda eh nakita ko yung mga ipininta niya sa mga eskwelahan,” Dioquino said.
Through painting, Camara was able to support his family and send his child to college, who is now working as a nurse abroad.
For him, his talent is a blessing, which have been his bread and butter for over two decades.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa Diyos kasi binigyan ako ng ganitong talento. Yun ang number one talaga,” he said.
