A total of 15 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Romblon District Jail found a creative outlet for healing and self-expression through an art session led by local artists from the Pintura Artists of Romblon Province on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

The activity, part of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s (BJMP) rehabilitation and reformation program, aimed to promote creativity, emotional well-being, and personal growth among PDLs through painting, according to BJMP MIMAROPA spokesperson Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo.

Local artists Hipolito Berano, Camilo Villanueva Jr., and Leo Maduro guided the participants in expressing their emotions and life experiences through visual art, teaching them basic techniques and encouraging self-reflection through creativity.

Acting District Jail Warden Jail Inspector Fatima Rabino thanked the artists for their support, saying the initiative helped the PDLs regain hope and confidence.

“Through art, they rediscover a sense of purpose and realize that positive change is possible even within confinement,” she said.

“Art plays a vital role in healing and transformation. It allows PDLs to process their experiences, express their emotions, and rebuild their sense of identity in a positive and productive way,” Anglo added.

According to Anglo, the finished artworks will be displayed inside the jail facility as a symbol of the PDLs’ creativity, resilience, and ongoing journey toward reform and transformation.
