Dancers, choreographers, and supporters were awash with emotions upon the announcement of the grand champion in Bacolod City's MassKara Festival 2025 Arena and Street Dance Competition on October 19, 2025.
The grand title went to --- Barangay Tangub.
The contingent said that the months-long practice and the huge expenses were all worth it.
“Kahit gumastos kami nang malaki, nakita ko ang best ng aking dancers. Malaki ang kaligayahan ng Barangay Tangub na nag-champion kami,” said Barangay Tangub Chairman Noli Villarosa.
Mark Philip Lamirez, choreographer, expressed big thanks to the Almighty for showering him with plenty of ideas on how to make the Bacolodnons merrier each time the MassKara Festival is celebrated.
“Ang Maykapal ang walang tigil sa paggabay, pagbigay ng ideas, kung papa’no mapasaya ang mga Bacolodnon, ang mga bisita, sa pamamagitan ng paggawa ng sayaw sa MassKara,” Lamirez said.
Barangay Tangub took home a million-peso reward.
Barangay Bata was adjudged first runner-up with prize money worth P500,000, while Barangay 29 was chosen second runner-up.
Barangay Bata showed off its prowess in the schools category despite the inclement weather on October 18, 2025.
Estefania Elementary School defended its title as champion upon the return of the competition in the schools category which was stalled during the pandemic.
“We also have to teach our next generation about resilience especially in conquering storms in life, this is just rain,” according to Rodney Mitz Ascalon, festival director, referring to the heavy rainfall on October 18, 2025.
Barangay Mansilingan won in the Electric MassKara Float and Dance Competition because of their “sweet entry” inspired by the cakes of Bacolod City.
Based on the theme “One Smile, One City, One Heart,” the floats were decorated in such a way that these would speak of everything local – Bacolod City’s icons, food items, and historic landmarks.
The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) said that the festivity was relatively peaceful. However, there were medical emergencies responded to evening at Lacson Tourism Strip where visitors swarmed.
"May mga batang nawala sa kanilang mga guardian. Always expect na ang Lacson kapag maayos ang panahon, puno talaga ng tao,” Colonel Joeresty Coronica, BCPO director, said.
A grand after-party is set by the Bacolod Gugma Foundation at the Government Center Grounds on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
