For many Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), the real challenge begins once they leave jail. Starting over is difficult, and uncertainty often overshadows their hope for a new life. But in Romblon, one act of compassion has given a former PDL a stronger chance to rebuild.

According to BJMP MIMAROPA spokesperson Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, Senior Jail Officer 1 Napoleon Mesana Jr. went beyond the usual send-off for a released PDL.

Through the BJMP’s After Care Program, he helped the former inmate secure a rent-to-own tricycle, support that serves not only as livelihood but also as a fresh start.

For the former PDL, Anglo said, the tricycle is a way to earn, regain dignity, and support his family as he returns to his community.

Anglo added the gesture shows the Bureau’s commitment to helping people rebuild their lives even after release.

“This simple yet meaningful act shows that our responsibility does not end at the jail gates. Through programs like this, we reaffirm our commitment to second chances and to helping former PDLs become productive members of society,” Anglo said.

The livelihood support is part of ongoing efforts to guide former PDLs as they reintegrate.

According to Anglo, for this beneficiary, one tricycle is helping him move forward with direction, purpose, and renewed hope. He believes that this is proof that second chances become stronger when communities choose to lift each other up.
