Dagupan City welcomed the Christmas season with a lighting ceremony that drew large crowds and highlighted the importance of family as the heart of the holidays.
The city held its Christmas lighting ceremony with the theme “Pamilya ang Puso ng Pasko”, as residents and visitors gathered to watch the official switch-on of holiday displays.
Performances filled the program, including a Christmas narrative, choral singing, and dance numbers by costumed children and mascots, leading to a countdown that lit up the city’s decorations.
A 40-foot giant Christmas tree stood as the centerpiece of the celebration, accompanied by a fireworks display. Other landmarks across the city also lit up at the same time, including Quintos Bridge and Rotonda de Venecia, with the bridge quickly becoming a favorite photo spot for visitors.
Dagupan City Police Office Director Police Colonel Orly Pagaduan said the event ran smoothly, crediting cooperation and preparedness.
“Nagpapasalamat kami sa lahat-lahat dahil hindi pumalya,” he said.
Mayor Belen Fernandez said the city kept the celebration simple but meaningful, anchored on family values.
“Ever since, pamilya po [ang tema], sa lahat ng bagay kaya nga pamilya ang puso ng Pasko. Kaya this time, we will celebrate yung fiesta natin, simple lang po,” the mayor said.
Visitors from towns nearby also came to see the display. Katrina De Vera, one of the guests, shared her excitement after watching the ceremony.
“Talaga pong napakasaya ang Christmas tree lighting sa Dagupan at sa Mangaldan. Talaga pong makikita ninyo sa Christmas na maraming kulay,” she said.
City officials said the holiday lights will remain on throughout the Christmas season as part of Dagupan’s effort to create a festive and welcoming atmosphere for families and tourists.
