A shop owner in Atok, Benguet used a hair blower to help a shivering man warm up after cold weather linked to the northeast monsoon caused his condition to worsen, according to local officials and CCTV footage.
Security camera footage taken inside a small store in Barangay Ablang showed a man entering the shop while shaking visibly from the cold. Minutes later, he appeared unable to calm himself as he reportedly ordered coffee.
The store owner and a companion grew alarmed as the man’s condition worsened and decided to assist him using a hair blower to reduce the cold he was feeling. The intervention helped ease his condition, as the footage showed.
The vendor said the man was from Quezon City and was also running a fever, which was aggravated by the low temperature.
Local officials said Atok has continued to experience low temperatures due to cold winds brought by the Amihan.
Mayor Franklin Smith of Tuba, Benguet reminded tourists to prepare for the cold when visiting highland areas.
“Pinagsasabihan natin sila, turista, na magsuot sila ng makakapal na damit at mag-take ng multivitamins,” Smith said.
Smith said extremely low temperatures could also trigger frost formation.
“Kasi dito sa amin pag pumapalo siya ng below 5 degrees, siguradong may frosting diyan,” he said.
Temperatures in Benguet ranged from 10 to 24 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, February 2, 2026, according to local data. Authorities also warned that andap, or frost, could return in the coming weeks.
The local government continued to advise tourists to ensure they are in good health before traveling to mountain destinations to avoid cold-related illness.
