We commonly hear the phrase “donating blood can save lives,” which is true not only to the  patient in need, but also to the giver as it carries a ton of health benefits.

BENEFITS

According to the Department of Health, donating blood prompts the production of new blood cells, which is overall beneficial to the human body.

DOH, during a Talakayan sa PIA (Philippine Information Agency) in 2025, explained that it helps in maintaining good circulation and boosting the body’s overall well-being.

An information drive by the DOH Cordillera, blood donation boasts the following health upsides:

  • Reduces the risk of heart and liver diseases
  • Lowers the risk of cancer
  • Maintains body weight
  • Lowers cholesterol level
  • Improves mental well-being

Overall, blood donation is a socially meaningful and healthy activity for everyone who is physically qualified and has time to spare.

As per the Philippine Red Cross, some of the key qualifications to be eligible to donate blood are the following:

  • Aged 18-65 years
  • Not pregnant
  • Not under the influence of alcoholic beverages
  • No medical conditions such as cancer, heart or lung disease, and HIV-AIDS
  • Normal blood pressure and pulse
