A routine trip to the hospital turned into an emergency birth on a Dagupan City road after a pregnant woman went into labor inside a car, with a barangay official and a health worker stepping in to help deliver a healthy baby boy.
This happened afternoon on Friday, February 6, 2026, in Barangay Bonuan Gueset when 32-year-old Ruby Navarro and her husband sought help from barangay officials to bring her to the hospital. The barangay service vehicle was unavailable at the time because it was transporting another patient, prompting Kagawad Leomer Cuaton to offer his own car.
Cuaton said Navarro appeared close to giving birth, leaving him little time to decide.
“Parang pumutok na ata yung panubigan nito so hindi na ako nag-dalawang isip. Kaya sabi ko doon ka na sa kotse ko, baka kasi abutan ka, mahirap na,” Cuaton said.
Navarro reportedly went into full labor moments after getting inside the vehicle. A barangay health worker who was with them assisted in the delivery while the car was moving toward the hospital.
The situation was difficult, Cuaton said, as traffic forced him to take risks on the road.
“Talagang nag-struggle kami sa daan kasi talagang kailangan kong kunin yung counterflow. Kasi alam ko naman kung makuha ko yung daan as freeway na, talagang iaabot ko siya sa ospital,” he said.
Navarro’s husband, Vic Navarro, said he was afraid of what would happen during the birth.
“Syempre natatakot po, kinakabahan kasi nahulog po yung bata. Talagang due date na rin po, napaaga lang ng konting araw siguro,” he said.
About 15 minutes later, the group reached the hospital, where medical staff immediately attended to the mother and child. The baby, later named Lucas, and his mother remain in the hospital but are both in stable condition.
The couple was thankful to the barangay officials for their quick response. The barangay council also provided financial assistance to help the family with initial expenses.
