Anton and Roi Vinzon are not simply acting side by side as father-and-son, they are living a shared dream. One that is career-defining for the young Sparkle actor, who considers the feat as a tribute to the older Vinzon’s screen career.

Fresh off his PBB Collab 2.0 stint and a notable performance in Batang Riles, Anton seemed ready for his big break. In recognition of this undeniable rise, he was tapped to star in his first solo lead series in the GMA Afternoon Prime offering “Kamao.”

“Malaking responsibilidad mabigyan ng ganitong project. Hindi mawawala yung pagod, takot, kaba, yung challenge, pero nangingibabaw sa akin ang kasiyahan ko sa ginagawa ko,” Anton said at the show’s grand media conference held on Monday, May 18.

As Anton checks off a career milestone, he could not also help but credit his father Roi – also present at the media-con as a proud member of the main cast – for the career guidance and mentorship.

“Para sa akin talaga tribute ko ito para kay Papa. Sana paglabas ng pilot, maging proud siya sa akin,” the younger Vinzon said, describing Roi as a “hands-on” dad all through out.

“During taping, tatay na tatay siya pagdating sa pagtuturo sa akin, nagiging stage father sya. Sa tagal na niya sa industriya, vetranong veterano na sya hinahangaan ko siya pagdating sa acting,” he added.

In Kamao, Anton plays Makisig ‘Makmak’ Batumbacal, a young man born to an issue-laden boxing family with a growing passion for the game; while Roi plays the tough head patriarch Domeng Batumbacal, Makmak’s grandfather.

As for the older Vinzon, he said it was a no-brainer saying yes to a Kapuso project top-billed by no less than his own son.

“Lolo, tatay– anything– kahit ano pwede ako, lalong lalo na (kung) para sa anak ko diba? At lalo na sa GMA, hindi ko pwedeng tanggihan yan,” shared Roi.

Directed by LA Madrilejos and Richard Arellano, “Kamao” is the GMA Afternoon Prime’s first sports-family drama led by a male character, following the life of Makmak Batumbacal as he steps inside the ring while battling through ups and downs in family, career, and love.

Anton and Roi are joined by a star-studded cast: Katrina Halili, Amy Austria, Neil Ryan Sese, Wendell Ramos, Bruce Roeland, Chanty Videla, Therese Malvar, Andre Paras, and Matt Lozano, with special cameo from MMFF Best Child Actor Euwenn Mikaell (Firefly).

Social media personalities Tito Abdul, Tito Marsy, Hellboy Gaming, and Meong Lipbite also join the supporting cast.

Kamao makes its world premiere on May 25, airing Monday to Friday at 3:20 pm on GMA Afternoon Prime.
