An auxiliary member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) of the Philippine Army shot dead a father and his son who reportedly ran amok in Barangay Montilla, Moises Padilla town, Negros Occidental on January 2, 2024.
Donan Sosia shot to death, reportedly in self-defense, 32-year-old John Albert Templatura and John's father, 70-year-old Godofredo.
Two civilians were hit by stray bullets in the incident, and were later reported to be in stable condition.
According to the Moises Padilla Municipal Police, Godofredo and John Albert who were both drunk had gone amok.
Barangay officials who had a hard time pacifying John Albert and Godofredo resorted to asking assistance from a detachment near the area.
Sosia went to respond alone. However, during the confrontation, John Albert brandished a bolo.
“During sa confrontation, ang una yung anak na biglang bumunot ng itak. Ang CAFGU just to defend himself pinagbabaril niya ang bata,” according to Major Jovito Bose, chief of the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station (MPMPS).
Sosia is now detained at the MPMPS and is already charged for homicide.
MPMPS is conducting further investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, the 62nd Infantry Battalion will conduct a separate probe.
“We required the 62nd IB to conduct investigation, and of course, ang ating Intelligence Unit inutusan rin natin na mag-conduct ng separate investigation,” Lt. Col. J-jay Javines, chief of the 3rd Infantry Division Public Affairs Office, said.
The military expressed willingness to assist the Templatura family and the two individuals wounded by stray bullets.
