A pump boat from Caubian island off the City of Lapu-Lapu was submerged in seawaters after its hull broke at past 6 a.m. on January 8, 2024.
All passengers were rescued by fishermen from Barangay Punta Engaño.
A teacher identified as Jude Alo said that the passengers were headed for mainland Lapu-Lapu to purchase basic goods.
The passengers rescued were identified as Lenlen Igot, Gil Limpangog, Jana Obando, Jade Balansad, Marilyn Inoc, and Carmen Abaño.
Alo, who was able to take a video of the incident, said that it was low tide when the passengers left for mainland Lapu-Lapu.
Protruding rocks hit the hull hard and destroyed it.
The boatman,Orlando Igot, and his assistant, Johnfel Balansad, are also out of danger. They were seen in the video looking after the submerged boat.
