A delivery rider is facing qualified theft and alarm and scandal charges for allegedly making up a story that he was held up and robbed in Barangay Catalunan Grande, Davao City.

The rider reported to the police that two motorcycle-riding suspects robbed his collection money amounting to P17,000 including the parcels that he was supposed to deliver.

In his story, the rider said the suspects pointed a knife and a gun at him while he parked his motorcycle beside the road to call the recipient of the parcel.

However, the supposed recipient who lives near the area of the alleged ‘robbery incident’ said he was expecting the parcel to be delivered that day but he did not receive any call or notification from the rider.

The recipient and other bystanders also said no commotion or anything unusual happened in the area where the rider supposedly parked his motorcycle.

Based on thorough investigation, police discovered a suspicious fund transfer in the rider’s GCash account worth P17,464, which is almost the same amount he reported to have been carted away by the suspects.

The rider allegedly admitted that he fabricated a story during confrontation with his employer at the police station.

Police are now preparing the appropriate charges to be filed against the rider.
