At least 11 houses were damaged after a portion of a gabion dike collapsed in Barangay 19-B, Davao City.

Authorities said nine families or 50 individuals were affected. They are now taking shelter temporarily at the gymasium.

“Kuyawan man ko kay nibanda man akoang mga plato didto sa luyo sa kusina, pagtuo nako nga truck ang niagi kay brooom ana man ang tingog. Pagkahuman, naminaw ko mura mag nahagbong ang nga riprap nga mga bato ba,” one of the affected residents, Oxiliom Dayondon, said.

There was no rain during that time but residents have already noticed cracks on the ground before the incident happened.

“Kumpyansa rapud kaayo, wala mi kabalo gabion na diay to, nag-anam-anam, nagkahinay-hinay na og slide. Natagak ang among mga washing machine, naa sa ubos, kaning cr bungkag na,” another resident, Bernard Zulueta, said.

Affected residents took their things outside their houses as they observe more cracks on the ground.

“Unya mahibal-an ang sa amoang meeting, kung kinahanglan paba sila ibalik or unsa pa ang next move nila or naa bay evacuation,” Barangay 19-B Kagawad Barbie Sobrecarey said.

The City Engineer’s Office has already checked the area.
