Nine alleged members of the Dawlah Islamiyah (DI) allegedly responsible for the December 3, 2023 bomb attack at the Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City were killed in a clash in Lanao del Sur.

Troops of the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion under the 103rd Infantry Brigade engaged heavily armed members of the terrorist group in a series of firefight in Barangay Tapurong, Piagapo town on January 25-26, 2024.

In a statement, the military said the slain DI local terrorist members were allegedly responsible in the deadly bomb attack at the MSU-Marawi Campus, which killed four people.

The military seized eight high-powered firearms while four Army soldiers were wounded in the gun battle.

The wounded soldiers were taken to Amai Pakpak Medical Center for medical treatment.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the four soldiers who sustained injuries during the said operation. We remain committed to ensuring their swift recovery,” part of the statement reads.

“Rest assured, there will be no let-up in our follow-up operations to eliminate remnants of local terrorist group,” the statement added.
