A Philippine tarsier was rescued in Sergio Osmeña, Zamboanga del Norte.
According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Zamboanga Peninsula (DENR-9), the ‘threatened wildlife’ was found by a resident who was tending to his farm.
Community Environment and Natural Resources Office officials said the tarsier was fit for release after assessing its health condition.
The tarsier was then released back into its natural habitat at Mount Sinai in Barangay Sinai, Sergio Osmeña, "providing a chance to thrive in its indigenous surroundings."
“As per DENR Administrative Order 2019−09 or the Updated National list of Threatened Philippine fauna and their categories, the Philippine tarsier is categorized as Other Threatened Species. Hence, the Department urges the public to promptly notify authorities of any sightings or encounters with the said species,” the DENR-9 said.
