A Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) leak caused a fire that razed an eatery in Barangay Pacol, Naga City, Camarines Sur.
The fire spread quickly because the eatery was made of light materials.
The service crew tried to control the fire using a fire extinguisher to no avail.
“Pig [sumpit] mi nin fire extinguisher talagang dae kaya ta makusog si [kalayo] nagsisirit si tangke [LPG]. Mas dakula si tangke [kesa] sa fire extinguisher talagang naglalaban,” Norman Faura, one of the service crew, said.
No injuries were reported and no other buildings were affected.
As of this writing, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is assessing the extent of damage.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Naga City, the fire was caused by an LPG leak. Residents also reported an explosion before the fire broke out.
This marks the fourth fire incident in the city since the start of the year, by far.
The fire station said electrical issues, negligence, and complacency in the use of appliances were the causes.
"So ang saro sa nahihiling ta diyan sir manungod sa electrical ano, in a sense na yung complacency kan mga tao and then at the same time—sabihon ta din na napabayaan o negligence. So minsan kasi naghaharali sa harong ninda na nakasaksak sa appliances, ining mga TV, electric fan gabos na appliances na ginagamit sa harong nakakaligtaan—pag-abot sa harong, pagbalik wara na sulo na ang harong," FCI Marc Allan Consuegra, Naga City Fire Marshal, said.
In light of these incidents, authorities urge residents to follow safety protocols when using LPG and electrical appliances. Recommended measures include:
Regular leak checks
Proper ventilation
Keeping LPG cylinders away from heat sources
Ensuring LPG cylinders are vertical and regulators are closed when not in use
Switching cylinders when it is damaged
