Residents of Barangay Sulungan in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte now only get water from streams after the wells in their area have dried up.
The wells reportedly started drying up as February entered because of the dry spell.
Water service no longer reaches Barangay Sulungan so residents had to get their supply from wells and streams. Now, they are one source down.
Aries Rello, a resident, said that the drought usually occurs in March or April.
"Kapag wala na talagang tubig, pumupunta kami sa mga sakahan na may water pump, humingi kami ng tubig pati itong mga kapitbahay [namin]... pila pila kami," he said.
As of this writing, residents are only gathering water from nearby streams.
Barangay Captain Fernando Velasco said they are now collecting and storing water. He reminded residents to use available water responsibly and conserve as much as possible.
"Para sa mga gawaing bahay… nag-iipon na kami ng tubig," he said.
The heat index in Ilocos Norte has reached 34-37 degrees Celsius, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
There is low chance of rain in the region because of local thunderstorms.
