Several establishments in Mangaldan, Pangasinan have not met fire safety standards, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The BFP identified the violation during an inspection ahead of the Fire Prevention Month in March.
One of the violations is the lack of required number of fire extinguishers recommended for the type of business.
"Yung ibang establishment, kulang pa yung required na fire extinguisher na recommended para doon sa establishment na yun," FO2 Stanley Carrera, an investigator of the Mangaldan Fire Station, said.
BFP gave business owners 15 days to comply with requirements.
"Nagko-conduct tayo ng inspection para makita natin kung ano yung violation. Pwede nating i-remind sa mga establishment na related doon sa fire code para safe ang establishment," Carrera added.
BFP hopes that the over 2,000 establishments in the town will comply with requirements, which are meant to keep them safe.
Divina Abrio, a business owner in the town, said they are not complacent even if their business is located just in front of the fire station.
"Sa amin, lalo na nandito kami sa harapan [lang ng BFP], kailangan namin na magkaroon ng fire extinguisher… ready kami kahit malapit kami sa BFP," she said.
