Encouraged by the increasing number of tourist arrivals since 2021, the Batangas Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) anticipates its visitors for the Holy Week and summer season to reach 9.7 million in 2024.
"Last year, we had around seven million, pero this time, we're seeing an increase of 30 percent sa ating tourist arrivals. We got this figure kasi from the last three years from 2021 we've been seeing an annual growth of 30 percent, so dito namin ibinase sa growth rate na ito," Katrin Erika Buted, Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer, said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that warm weather is expected between late February and early March.
A resort in Pagkilatan, Batangas City, said it already has around 100 guest reservations for February and March.
"We're preparing for our biggest group for holy week and normally po umaabot kami ng 300 plus at [yung] amin pong area ay napupuno po within a week. Nag-a-advance kami ng bookings [kasi] ayaw naman namin sila i-reject as much as we can," Panni Castillo, the resort manager, said.
Batangas remains a favorite destination for tourists in the Philippines because of its proximity to Metro Manila and coastal areas, according to PTCAO.
"The proximity from Metro Manila and the accessibility because of our roads and good infrastructure bound for Batangas. Also, there is continuous relaxation na [for tourists because] of health and safety protocols sa mga tourism establishments," Katrin Erika Buted, the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer, said.
